Ohmio: New Zealand’s self-driving car pioneers

17 October 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The world has been on the edge of its seat waiting for autonomous automobiles to be made reality – and they have – here at the edge of the world in New Zealand.

In 2017 HMI Technologies launched Ohmio Hop shuttles, described as being the world’s first “self-driving and scalable public transport solution”. Successful trials have run at Christchurch Airport and Christchurch Art Gallery, with trials also underway at Olympic Park in Sydney and La Trobe University, Melbourne.

The business of autonomous automobiles is incredibly complex. Besides the obvious technological challenges, the ethical, legal and practical implications are enormous. At this public lecture Ohmio CEO Stephen Mathews shared insights into how Ohmio have managed to be at the forefront of this truly innovative industry. Attendees were inspired by a pioneering company who have merged business savvy ingenuity with bravery, integrity and intelligence.
